As reported in a press release on Feb. 20, Stellantis has launched STLA AutoDrive 1.0, marking its first venture into in-house-developed automated driving technology. This system introduces hands-free and eyes-off (SAE Level 3) functionality, allowing automated driving at speeds up to 60 km/h (37 mph). It is part of Stellantis' broader technology strategy, which also includes STLA Brain and STLA Smart Cockpit, aiming to enhance vehicle intelligence, automation and user experience. STLA AutoDrive is designed to reduce driver workload, particularly in stop-and-go traffic, offering the capability for drivers to engage in non-driving tasks safely during commutes. The technology notifies drivers when conditions are suitable for activation, at which point it can control speed, maintain safe distances, and manage steering and braking, all while continuously monitoring its surroundings with an advanced sensor suite.

The system operates seamlessly at night or in challenging weather, thanks to an automated sensor-cleaning feature ensuring reliability. STLA AutoDrive also offers Level 2 and Level 2+ capabilities at higher speeds, including Adaptive Cruise Control and lane-centering functions, providing a more confident and stress-free driving experience. Developed to be scalable and adaptable for global markets, STLA AutoDrive is cloud-connected, allowing for continuous improvements through over-the-air updates and real-time data integration. It complies with applicable regulations, requiring drivers to be prepared to take control when necessary and respects regional laws on driver conduct.

Looking to the future, STLA AutoDrive is designed as an evolving platform, with the potential to achieve higher speed operation up to 95 km/h (59 mph) and enhanced off-road automation capabilities.
