Japanese vehicle output falls 10% y/y in January, exports decline 9% y/y
Japanese domestic vehicle output continued to decline for a fifth straight month in January, while exports fell for a sixth consecutive month.
The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) today (28 February) released vehicle production and export data for January. According to the data, Japanese automakers together produced 754,054 vehicles at their domestic plants in January, down 9.9% year-on-year (y/y). By vehicle type, passenger car output fell 10.7% y/y to 642,751 units and truck output fell 6.7% y/y to 100,360 units, while bus output increased 11.8% y/y to 10,943 units. Vehicle exports during the month stood at 345,554 units, down 9.1% y/y, the sixth straight month of decline.
