
Japanese automakers Toyota, Nissan and Honda have raised production in China, reports Dow Jones. Toyota’s vehicle production in China rose 7.4% year-on-year (y/y) in January, while Nissan saw production rise by 32% y/y and Honda 20% y/y. Nissan produced 99,571 units, while Honda, produced 52,005 vehicles in January in China.
Significance: Toyota, Nissan and Honda have reported strong sales growth in January in China and have begun to bring production at their Chinese plants back to pre-riot levels. IHS Automotive has already reported that these three top Japanese automakers were bringing back volume production at their Chinese joint-venture plants. However overall lost production is expected to affect Japanese automakers. According to IHS Automotive, Japanese automakers in China are likely to see lost production of 350,000 units in 2013 and 300,000 units in 2014.
