Hyundai Mobis develops ‘redundancy brake system’ for autonomous vehicles
New system applies brake in the main brake fails or does not operate normally
Hyundai Mobis has developed a new ‘redundancy brake system’ for highly autonomous driving vehicles, the company said in a press release on 26 September. The brake system becomes automatically engaged even if the original brakes fails and thus ensures safety of occupants in the vehicle. The new system consists of two electronic brake systems, an electronic control units (ECU) and a software platform. If the main brake fails or does not operate normally, the controller detects the problem and orders the auxiliary brake system to start working.
