Automotive Image Sensors – A Review of Current Trends
Several features that require camera technology will become mandatory by 2024 in many countries
Sensors have played a pivotal role in the automotive industry, as knowing the state of various systems within the vehicle is ever more important. Sensors are also increasingly being used to gather information about a vehicle’s surroundings and are more and more being integrated into several interior and exterior components of the vehicle, including radar into bumpers and grills, and image sensors into windshield and mirrors. Image sensors are among the most versatile available in the ADAS segment. They offer a wide field of view and high dynamic range and often support multiple diverse applications, especially when selected as a forward sensor typically installed inside the windshield behind the rear-view mirror, although multi-functionality has been based on rear-camera sensors, as well.
