Our latest report on Automotive front lighting systems offers a detailed overview of how front lights in vehicles are becoming increasingly important for ensuring safer driving and creating brand- or model-specific design.
Front lights in vehicles mainly comprise headlights, daytime running lights (DRLs), direction indicator lights and front fog lights. Each of these lights perform a well-defined function that helps in safer driving. Headlights, for example, are responsible for illuminating the road during the night or when visibility is low. DRLs help drivers of other vehicles notice the presence of the equipped vehicle. Drivers use direction indicator lights to inform other road users before changing lanes on highways or turning at the next traffic signal. Fog lamps help drivers in dense fog.
In addition to these conventional lights, automakers have started offering exterior illumination solutions in the front and the rear of new vehicles. In the front, such solutions include a light bar, illuminated grille and illuminated logo. Together with headlights and DRLs, these exterior illumination features allow automotive designers to create a unique light signature for a vehicle model that helps them differentiate from other vehicles.
