EV batteries account for about 30% to 40% of the total cost of a battery electric vehicle (BEV), making it the single most strategic component that is not only keeping the prices of BEVs more than their ICE counterparts but is also pushing the carmakers to rework their respective global supply chains. As a result, the price of an EV battery and the factors contributing to it remains one of the key topics of interest for the vehicle manufacturers globally.
For long, it was believed that battery electric and ICE cars will achieve price parity once the price of a lithium-ion battery pack gets to a $100 per kWh, resulting into a widespread adoption of BEVs globally.
