The proposal aims to simplify the deployment of self-driving cars amid industry challenges and scrutiny following a pedestrian injury by a GM Cruise vehicle

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Dec. 20 a proposal aimed at simplifying the review process for automakers seeking exemptions to deploy autonomous vehicles without traditional human controls, such as steering wheels or brake pedals, according to a report published by Reuters on Dec. 21.
