The JV between Stellantis and Foxconn targets semiconductor design for smarter, safer vehicles, with plans to boost India's automotive ecosystem

SiliconAuto, an automotive technology company backed by Foxconn, has inaugurated its research and development center in Bengaluru, India, aiming to spearhead semiconductor product design and system-on-chip development specifically for the automotive industry, according to a report published by Business Standard on Sept. 24.

This establishment marks a collaborative venture between Stellantis NV, based in the Netherlands, and Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), with the initiative signaling a significant push toward enhancing smarter and safer transportation futures. The choice of Bengaluru for this new design center was highlighted by SiliconAuto CEO Gene Liu, who praised the city for its abundant talent pool and dynamic tech ecosystem.

Foxconn India's representative, V Lee, emphasized on social media that this R&D center is set to boost the company's innovative strides in creating advanced automotive technologies and solutions, notably for Stellantis, among others. Highlighting Foxconn's broader investment in the automotive sector, it was mentioned that Foxconn is in the process of establishing an electric vehicle manufacturing plant and has plans for setting up a battery manufacturing unit dedicated to EVs.

The Bengaluru-based design center of SiliconAuto is poised to delve into developing next-generation semiconductor solutions catering to EVs, autonomous driving and connected car technologies. This move underlines SiliconAuto's dedication to positioning India as a pivotal hub for talent and technological innovation within the global automotive landscape.
