German carmaker Volkswagen’s battery unit PowerCo will build just one of the two planned production lines at its Salzgitter, Germany, plant amid mounting cost pressure and a global slowdown in the demand for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), according to a news report published by Reuters on Sept. 6.
