Automakers are clearly looking to increase control on battery sourcing though in-house manufacturing and also by developing strategic partnerships with cell-makers.

Owing to the geopolitical uncertainties prevalent in the battery supply chain, automakers are always looking to have more control on the sourcing of various battery components. There are three main components that make up a conventional electric vehicle lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery — the cell, the module and the pack. Automakers can, and generally have, different levels of control on the value chain of these components.
