INTERVIEW: Emotion in motion - Smart Eye's vision for emotion-aware automotive technology
The systems offered by Smart Eye employ a camera-based approach to assess distraction and driver fatigue directly, in contrast to indirect systems that rely on less accurate behavioral measures like steering wheel behavior. This means that vehicles are alerted when distraction occurs and issue warnings before the driver falls asleep. These alerts can even trigger immediate actions such as a safe stop maneuver when a driver is falling asleep or is losing consciousness.
At CES 2024, held in Las Vegas, Smart Eye showcased its cutting-edge Emotion Generative AI capability, alongside key partnerships with industry leaders such as Aptiv, Cerence, Forvia and others. This marks a significant leap in the integration of advanced AI technologies within vehicle human-machine interfaces (HMIs), promising empathetic and immersive experiences for drivers. The cornerstone of Smart Eye's showcase at CES 2024 is its Emotion AI Prompt Engine, a pioneering concept that merges advanced automotive sensing with the capabilities of large language models. This innovative system enables in-car assistants to recognize and dynamically respond to human emotions, fostering enhanced communication and interaction between humans and vehicles. To learn more, we spoke to Smart Eye. The following is an edited transcript of the interview.
