The governments, carmakers and automotive component suppliers have learned the risks of overreliance on one country during the pandemic, and efforts are being made on several fronts to stabilize the EV battery supply chain, with an increasing focus on graphite. Will this suffice?

In an ever-evolving trade war between two of the world’s largest economies, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Oct. 20, 2023, that it would deploy a temporary export control measure on graphite, a critical raw material used in manufacturing batteries. The measure was later implemented as a state policy on Dec. 1, 2023.
