Battery recycling climbs up the priority list of OEMs
A high number of EV batteries will be available for recycling over the next decade, providing OEMs with an opportunity to generate significant amount of recycled materials that can be fed back into the battery supply chain.
During the life cycle of an electric vehicle (EV), battery cell manufacturing and raw material mining has the biggest contribution toward CO2 emissions. The other major challenge is with the supply of critical raw materials, such as cobalt, nickel and lithium. As EV uptake picks up pace, production of lithium-ion battery cells will also have to expand in line to meet the demand.
