Keyless and digital vehicle access technologies

Digital vehicle access systems are proliferating fast, thanks to high convenience, robust security and privacy protection; wider interoperability across smart devices; and seamless sharing capabilities they bring. Driven by mobility-as-a-service use cases and application-based technologies, the industry is increasingly leveraging the cloud and various smart devices to provide flexible yet secure digital vehicle access systems. Using ultra-wideband (UWB) as the main underlying technology, these systems enable the use of smart devices or smart cards as digital vehicle keys. While most automotive OEMs have launched companion vehicle apps with remote vehicle access and engine start as native features, technology players like Apple and Google have built digital key versions into their smartphone architectures.
