The 2023 E-Mobility Consumer Survey asked nearly 8,000 participants worldwide questions regarding electric and hybrid vehicles to understand consumer sentiment around EV/hybrid buying decisions, charging preferences and willingness to pay, and general interest in the respective technologies. Despite the installation of an increasing number of chargers, consumers still perceive the charging infrastructure as insufficient for their needs. This perception arises because the adoption rate of PEV vehicles is outpacing the spread of charging infrastructure. More respondents were familiar with the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) concept and most of them were interested to implement this technology for cost saving.
To understand consumer sentiment toward S&P Global Mobility forecast technologies, the Battery, Charging and Consumer Insights research teams conduct an annual consumer survey that serves as a quantitative input to the forecast. By asking hybrid/electric vehicle owners and intenders a series of questions to gauge buying decisions, charging time and method preferences, willingness to pay for charging and brand influences, analysts can develop indices related to consumer confidence and willingness to pay.
