About this report

This report provides an overview of the current landscape of infotainment head unit systems for cars as well as an in-depth demand outlook for the systems, main players, and market drivers at global and regional levels. The infotainment head unit is the command center of a vehicle’s entertainment functions including radio tuner, media connectivity, audio playback, navigation, as well as the human-machine interface element (center stack display).

IHS Markit uses three categories to segment infotainment head unit technology as explained below:

  • Audio –These are the most common types of infotainment head units that only feature audio playback capabilities. An audio head unit does not include a TFT LCD color display.
  • Navigation–A head unit that features on-board navigation functionality, including an embedded GPS receiver and an embedded navigation engine.
  • Display audio–A head unit that features a central TFT LCD color display and does not fall under navigation.

This report focuses on audio, display audio, and navigation hardware forecast and opportunities. The services and applications used with these systems will be mentioned but are not the main focus for this report.
