Strategic consolidation: AAM's acquisition of Dowlais Group
AAM expects that the acquisition of Dowlais Group will help it establish a dominant presence in the global driveline and metal-forming supply sectors, providing a diverse and powertrain-agnostic product range. The company projects that this merger will generate approximately $12 billion in annual revenue and around $300 million in yearly cost synergies.
On Jan. 29, American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Dowlais Group through a combination of cash and stock, which values the UK-based firm at approximately $1.44 billion. Dowlais Group owns GKN Automotive and GKN Powder Metallurgy. Following shareholder and regulatory approvals, the transaction is anticipated to close by the fourth quarter of 2025.
