Stellantis plans to invest €38 million in manufacturing electric motors at its plant in Verrone, which is located in the province of Biella, Italy, the company announced March 17.

Production of electric motors at Verrone is scheduled to start by the end of 2027.

The vehicle manufacturer said that work had already begun a few weeks ago at its facility in Verrone, where it plans to install and operate a total of 56 machine tools. Stellantis said it is already in the process of installing six machine tools.

Once operational, these machines will produce essential components for the construction of electric propulsion modules (EDMs), the carmaker said, adding that it also produces EDMs at its other group plants in Europe.

It further mentioned that the planned investment at its Verrone plant, which is located in the Piedmont region of Italy, is part of the preparatory activities for the implementation of the Italian Plan, first presented in December 2024. The plan places Italy at the center of Stellantis' growth and investment strategies, which involve an increase in production volumes of electric and hybrid vehicles. Stellantis’ position on Italy is aimed at safeguarding employment levels and economic growth in the region.

The company plans to produce steel shafts and gears in Verrone that will be used to produce electric motors for future vehicles based on the STLA Small platform. The facility will have an annual capacity of more than 400,000 units at full capacity, with the provision to further expand the capacity by another 200,000 units per year when required.

Stellantis’ Piedmont plant, headed by Liliana Caminiti, is one of the vehicle manufacturer’s flagship auto component production facilities globally. It employs about 350 people and produces more than 200,000 gearboxes for the carmaker’s other facilities in Europe.
