The strategic partnership combined StoreDot’s cutting-edge XFC technology with Kumyang’s expertise in cylindrical cell manufacturing

Israel-based battery technology company StoreDot has partnered with South Korean battery manufacturer Kumyang to put its extreme fast charging (XFC) cylindrical cells to mass production, according to a news article published by The EV Report on March 7.

The technology licensing agreement marks a significant step as it combines StoreDot’s cutting-edge XFC technology with Kumyang’s expertise in cylindrical cell manufacturing, focusing on the 4680-cell format. The collaboration is expected to deliver electric vehicle batteries that can charge from a 10% state-of-charge (SoC) to 80% SoC in just 10 minutes, offering high-energy density and long cycle life.

“This advancement aims to reduce charging times for EV drivers, supporting the global shift to electric mobility,” the report mentioned.

The partnership builds on a successful joint program executed by StoreDot and Kumyang, where the two companies worked together to optimize cell design at Kumyang’s facility in South Korea. The result is a battery that balances high-energy density with fast charging, addressing a major hurdle in EV adoption — charging anxiety.

That said, by integrating StoreDot’s patented XFC cells into the widely used 4680 cylindrical format, the collaboration will be able to offer EVs with significantly shorter charging times without sacrificing the driving range. Fast-charging EVs are expected to accelerate mass adoption among consumers worldwide.

StoreDot’s CEO Doron Myersdorf said, “This license agreement is an important milestone for StoreDot that will make our XFC technology available in the cylindrical format, in addition to the pouch and prismatic formats currently available.”

Meanwhile, Kumyang’s CEO Ryu Kwanghyun said, “This collaboration aligns perfectly with our commitment to delivering cutting-edge battery solutions that empower the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.”
