Xpeng Motors and Volkswagen (VW) have signed another memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on building an electric vehicle charging network in Greater China, according to a news report published by CnEVPost on Jan. 6.
Under the MOU, the two companies plan to build one of the largest superfast-charging networks in the world's largest EV market, the report said, adding that more than 20,000 EV charging piles that are already operated by the two companies combined in Greater China will be available to Xpeng and VW customers.
The collaboration also extends to a possibility of building co-branded superfast-charging stations in Greater China, the report said, citing an announcement by Xpeng.
According to the report, while the new strategic cooperation is the fourth milestone in Xpeng and VW's long-term strategic partnership, the two companies are keen to further explore the strategic cooperation opportunities to broaden their technology portfolios.
In July 2023, VW and Xpeng had jointly announced that the German carmaker plans to invest $700 million in the upcoming Chinese EV maker to co-develop EVs.
