German automaker has also announced the furlough of approximately 200 employees at the Chattanooga plant starting Sept. 23

Volkswagen (VW) has halted sales and temporarily ceased production of the ID.4 electric SUV at its Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, US, following a recall due to potentially defective door handles. The recall, prompted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), was issued after discovering that water could infiltrate the electronic door handles, causing a short-circuit that might lead to the doors opening while the vehicle is in motion. With no immediate solution for the door handle issue, the German automaker has opted to temporarily suspend production of the ID.4.
