The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has confirmed the 28th death in the US since 2009, stemming from a defective airbag inflators supplied by erstwhile Takata Corporation, Reuters reported on Sept. 3. The death, reported to the vehicle safety agency by Honda, took place in 2018 but was recently verified as being a result of a malfunctioning Takata airbag. According to the Japanese automaker, a person was killed while driving a Honda vehicle with one of the defective airbag inflators.
