Are projection lights the next big trend in automotive lighting?
Side projection made up nearly three-fourths of all projection light components offered in vehicles in 2023, followed by rear projection at 14% and front projection at 13%
For years, automakers have been equipping vehicles with lighting systems for seeing the road ahead, especially during nighttime, and for being seen by other road users including pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers. While headlights and sometimes front fog lights are mainly used for seeing, drivers count on signaling lights (taillights, brake lights, reverse lights, rear fog lights and center high-mounted stop lights), daytime running lights (DRLs) and turn indicator lights (both in the front and rear) to alert other road users to their presence and understand their driving intents, such as slowing down, backing out, or turning left or right.
