Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT), a wholly owned subsidiary of India-based automotive battery supplier Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd. (ARE&M), held a groundbreaking ceremony for setting up a customer qualification plant (CQP) for manufacturing battery cells at its Gigacorridor in Divitipalli, Mahbubnagar in Telangana, India.
The initial phase of the battery pack plant, with a 1.5-GWh capacity, was inaugurated during this event. The plant makes lithium-ion battery packs for the Indian market, catering to electric vehicle original equipment manufacturers and for stationary energy storage. The CQP, scheduled to become operational by mid-2025, can produce various cell types for customer testing and validation.
ARE&M plans to invest 9.5 billion rupees (about $1.1 billion) in its upcoming Gigacorridor through 2031. The Gigacorridor includes an advanced cell-manufacturing gigafactory and a battery pack facility. Additionally, an advanced energy research and innovation center named ePositive Energy Labs is being developed in Hyderabad, Telangana.
In June, ARE&M signed a technical licensing agreement with GIB EnergyX, a subsidiary of Slovakia-based Gotion High-Tech, to license its lithium-ion phosphate technology for producing lithium-ion battery cells to ARACT.
