Metals-rich rocks found deep in the ocean could meet Japan's cobalt and nickel needs, with extraction plans underway

In a significant development in deep-sea exploration, 200 million metric tons of manganese nodules rich in battery metals have been discovered in the Pacific Ocean, which are abundant in cobalt, nickel, copper and manganese.
