BMW Group selects Cerence emergency vehicle detection to alert drivers of approaching emergency vehicles
Cerence Inc.'s emergency vehicle detection will boost BMW Group's L3 automated driving system's safety features by identifying approaching emergency vehicles, prompting drivers to take necessary action
As reported in a press release June 4, BMW Group will utilize Cerence Inc.'s emergency vehicle detection (EVD) to enhance the safety features of its BMW Personal Pilot L3 conditional automated driving system, according to an announcement by Cerence. As part of Cerence's Audio AI suite, EVD uses the unique sound structure of emergency siren signals to reliably detect approaching emergency vehicles such as police cars, fire trucks and ambulances. This technology offers the required intelligence for autonomous vehicles to yield, advising the driver to take action and respond.
