S&P Global Mobility’s 2023 Human-Machine Interface (HMI) Consumer Survey reveals that most users consider touchscreens an important factor when purchasing a new vehicle despite associated driving distraction concerns.

Thanks to smart devices becoming integral part of our lives, it is difficult to imagine vehicle cockpits today without touchscreens. The popularity of touch as an input method has also benefited from the ever-increasing size of in-vehicle displays. There is hardly an automaker today that has shied away from offering touchscreens in the dashboard. Even German luxury brands, previously known for a central multifunction controller to control display content, have embraced touch-based controls.
