The EU's regulatory framework provides for a phased approach to the introduction of automated driving technology, with different levels of automation defined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the European Commission.
The automotive industry has been diligently working toward the realization of fully automated vehicles, ushering in an era of transformative mobility and unprecedented safety on the roads. Although the industry is making progress in ensuring that the technology is secure, the regulation that could enforce safety requirements is largely absent or outdated in many geographies.
