CATL has launched Shenxing, reportedly the world's first 4C superfast-charging lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, it said in a press release dated August 16. The battery can deliver 400 km of driving range with a 10-minute charge and a range of over 700 km on a single full charge.

“The future of the [electric vehicle] battery technology must remain steadfastly anchored at the global technology frontier as well as the economic benefits. As EV consumers shift from pioneering users to ordinary users, we should make advanced technology accessible for all and enable everyone to savor the fruits of innovation,” said Wu Kai, chief scientist of CATL.

Significance: Shenxing can operate optimally in a wide range of temperatures. CATL has developed an all-in-one grouping technology on top of the integration of the internal crossbeam and end plates.

Shenxing can charge up to 80% state of charge in 10 minutes at room temperature. It uses cell-temperature control technology on system platforms to ensure that cells heat up to the optimal operating temperature range rapidly. A 0-80% charge can be done in 30 minutes at temperatures as low as -10°C.

The upgraded electrolyte and the separator uses a safe coating to provide a dual protection of the Shenxing battery. CATL has built a real-time fault testing system that can solve the problems brought about by fast refueling.
