The mobility industry is swiftly moving toward a future where vehicles can assist the driving task to a high degree and even automate the driving. The safety benefits of assisted and automated technologies are becoming apparent as time passes, making them increasingly important to driving safety. The current safety rating methodologies will not be sufficient to assess these vehicles. As cars become more crash avoidance–oriented, a new approach to rating them will be needed.
