Cadillac has introduced its enhanced Super Cruise driver assistance technology on the CT5 sedan in mainland China, it said in a press release on 5 August. The enhanced Super Cruise system includes lane change on demand and automatic lane changing. The service can be used on over 320,000 km of expressways and nearly all urban elevated roads connected to expressways in the country.

The enhanced Super Cruise system offers better driver monitoring. It tracks the driver’s vision and issues signals when they need to pay attention. The camera and infrared sensors support detection at night or when the driver is wearing sunglasses.

Significance: Cadillac first introduced the Super Cruise on its CT6 sedan in mainland China in 2018. Super Cruise is General Motors’ intelligent driving assistance technology, which uses centimeter-level lidar map and real-time cameras and sensors and can be updated over-the-air (OTA). The enhanced version features lane change on demand. It allows the system to change lanes on compatible highways when requested by the driver. Earlier this month, General Motors announced plans to double its Super Cruise road network for autonomous driving in the US.
