While demands for lightweighting and increased requirements for impact resistance have driven a progressive decline in demand for mild steel for body structure manufacturing, an increased availability of new steel alloys with high strength and optimized energy absorption characteristics from major suppliers has renewed interest in the material’s application within the future light vehicle segment.
