Over the last few decades, automakers increasingly gravitated toward multi-material, multi-gauge sheet metal-based body construction methods that allowed lightweighting through part optimizations. Off the back of Tesla’s much touted “Gigacasts”, a new trend of single piece megacast body parts has gained interest as an alternate method that can lower engineering complexity whilst boosting manufacturing cost-effectiveness.
