Russian military forces initiated military operations in Ukraine on 24 February, creating logistical nightmares for automotive supply chains whose downstream ramifications are yet to reach the consumer market. Western governments, following the invasion, initiated broad-based financial and trade-based sanctions against Russia. Occupation of critical parts of Ukraine’s shoreline by Russian forces indicate that even if a ceasefire is announced between the two countries in the next couple of weeks, trade through the Black Sea is likely to see continued friction in the near future.
