TSMC, Sony plan to build new USD 7 bn chip plant in Japan

The plant in Kumamoto, southern Japan, is expected to produce semiconductors for automobiles, camera image sensors and other products

According to a press release published by the Japan Times, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. intends to build an advanced chipmaking factory in Japan in 2022 and begin operations there in 2024, according to CEO C.C. Wei.
