German automotive components supplier, Benteler, has announced that it will present multiple innovations at the upcoming IAA Mobility 2021 event, which will be held in Munich, Germany, in September. According to a press release issued by Benteler on 25 August, the company will display its Benteler Electric Drive System (BEDS), a scalable platform solution for EVs.

Benteler has jointly also developed this platform into a rolling chassis called a ‘skateboard’ along with its partner, Bosch. The two companies have also developed the Integrated E-Chassis module (an axle with integrated drive for EVs), which Bosch will be exhibiting at the event.

Benteler also has a fully modular battery pack—consisting of an aluminum tray, cooling, battery modules as well as fittings and high-voltage cabling and connections—that can be integrated into the body of an e-vehicle.

Significance: From a thermal perspective, Benteler offers a battery cooling system for vertically arranged cylindrical battery cells. The cooling elements are only a few millimeters thick, which saves space. Running between the battery cells, heat is dissipated efficiently from close to where it originates, thus protecting the batteries from overheating. Benteler uses various Industry 4.0 solutions at its facilities, such as using big data to improve quality control, and using VR glasses to allow engineers to perform remote maintenance.
