What Fit for 55 means for all member nations in the European Union

Viewing climate change and the need to make Europe world’s first climate neutral continent by 2050 with urgency, the European Commission pushes its Fit for 55 proposals for all member nations. Besides impacting new car sales, the new guidelines, which are yet to be made legally binding, revise targets for deployment of EV charging points after the previous mandate did not yield the expected outcome.

Unveiling a roadmap to make Europe the world’s first climate neutral continent by 2050, the European Commission rolled out the ‘Fit for 55’ package on 14 July 2021, proposing that the suggestions made by the governing body be made legally binding for all members of the European Union (EU).
