Lyft leverages ride-sharing data to accelerate development of self-driving technology
Ride-sharing data helps Lyft tackle some of the key challenges in autonomous driving from building-accurate 3D maps to understand human driving pattern
Lyft is tapping ride-sharing data to accelerate the development of self-driving technology, Lyft Level 5 said in a blog on Medium on 23 June. The self-driving unit of the US-based ride-hailing service provider has equipped a subset of cars on its ride-sharing network with low-cost camera sensors, which captures diverse driving scenarios that its drivers are facing daily. This data helps Lyft tackle some of the key challenges in autonomous driving, from building accurate 3D maps to understand human driving pattern, to increase the efficiency of its simulation tests by providing access to real-world driving situations.
