2018 Global plug-in electric vehicle index
Significant growth in PEV sales reinforces global commitment towards zero-emission technologies
2018 was a year of sustained growth for plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs). OEMs around the world exhibited an increased commitment towards improving their uptake, with global PEV market share increasing from 1.4% in 2017 to 2.2% in 2018. This is backed by a 55% increase in PEV production year-on-year. Graham Evans, Principal Analyst at IHS Markit, discussed the progression at length during a recent open webinar. He explained the rise in PEV sales and underpinned the global and local trends in key regions with an overview of supporting legislation and their impact on PEV uptake.
