Seating Subsystem Lightweighting
Answering the technology and supply chain conundrum for lightweighting
The Seating subsystem in the interiors component area is estimated to account for more than 40% of the total component area weight and up to 6% of the total vehicle weight. In terms of additional comfort and luxury features, one of the first targets for OEMs is to improve the driving experience even more, thus making a challenging case for lightweighting. IHS Markit’s research on the materials and lightweighting sector provides interesting insights into weight reduction and features mass addition trends in this component subsystem, given both the supply chain and technologies involved.
