Volvo Cars partners with Baidu to develop, build self-driving cars

Volvo will offer its expertise in advanced technologies in the automotive technologies, while Baidu will provide its Apollo autonomous driving platform

Volvo Cars has reached an agreement with China-based Internet technology company Baidu to jointly develop and produce self-driving electric cars for the Chinese market, the Swedish carmaker said in a press release. Under the agreement, Volvo will offer its expertise in advanced technologies in the automotive technologies, while Baidu will provide its autonomous driving platform, Apollo. The partners aim to sell self-driving electric vehicles capable of SAE Level 4 autonomy to Chinese customers.
