Ford collaborates with Vodafone to develop connected safety technology
New technology is built on eCall which automatically alerts emergency services if a car is involved in a serious accident
Ford, in collaboration with Vodafone, is testing a connected vehicle technology that can automatically alert other drivers to an accident ahead and shows how to get out of the way of emergency vehicles, the automaker said in a press release on 24 September. The technology, dubbed ‘eCall Plus’, is built on eCall (Emergency Call) functionality, which automatically alerts emergency services if a car is involved in a serious accident. The eCall device became mandatory in new cars and light vehicles in European Union (EU) from 31 March 2018.
