SK Telecom to develop ‘control center’ for self-driving vehicles under South Korean government project

Korean mobile carrier will focus on developing the control center for autonomous driving vehicles by using 5G network service and HD maps

SK Telecom will participate in a project led by the South Korean government to develop autonomous vehicle public transport system, the Yonhap News Agency reported today (25 May). The KRW39.5 billion (USD33.2 million) project, spearheaded by the country’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, will conduct detailed research on South Korea’s public transportation system by 2021. As a key member of the project, SK Telecom will focus on developing the “control center” for autonomous driving vehicles by using fifth-generation (5G) network service and high-definition (HD) maps.
