Engine oil coolers: Technology overview and market analysis

AutotechInsight Analysis Monthly

The demand for light vehicle engine oil cooler systems is expected to grow by around 60% between 2016 and 2023 on the back of increased fitment demand in gasoline engines.

The Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) is made up of several hundred moving parts such as the pistons, connecting rods, camshafts, and valves, which have very tight tolerances between them and operate at very high speeds when the engine is running. For the efficient working of an engine, these complex moving parts must be sufficiently lubricated and the heat produced as a byproduct managed. Furthermore over the last few years, engines technology trends, in the quest for lower emissions and better fuel efficiency, have favored downsizing while improving specific engine output using forced induction. This has placed increased performance demands on the lubrication system due to the higher heat rejection of the engines.
