Internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles have been the predominant mode of transportation since the early 1900s when the availability of cheap petrol made the electric vehicle (EV) all-but-extinct. Until then EVs were the preferred mode of transport to the extent where they commanded about 30% market share of the US car market (in 1900).
