There is more to AR-HUDs than just a virtual display. In fact, definitions of what constitute an AR-HUD is quite confusing right now. The term is beginning to pick up some buzz, which as a result can be misused or misinterpreted. This happened with gesture recognition as well as the notion of “natural language” speech recognition in the past. However, many supplier and OEM representatives at the SID conference agreed one sole fact – augmented reality is a system, not a component. Sounds overly complex, right? But in application, the system-level definition is very real and very important.
