When the term Artificial Intelligence (or “AI”) is used in an automotive context, most people will envision a robot car that can drive itself. And this is a very direct application for AI in automotive. However, if done correctly, it will be largely a backend or “behind-the-scenes” type of intelligence that observes, trains, and predicts things without the user really being involved – hence the autonomous function. However, AI’s most tangible purpose will be in how it interacts with users themselves. While it will be interconnected with autonomy, it will perform very differently.
