Will assemble 1.5-litre diesel engines for the VW Polo hatchback, Vento sedan, and Skoda Rapid sedan.
Volkswagen (VW) has inaugurated its first diesel engine plant in India, reports the Press Trust of India (PTI). The plant, housed at VW's Chakan facility in Pune, will assemble 1.5-litre diesel engines for the VW Polo hatchback, Vento sedan, and Skoda Rapid sedan. Spread over 3,500 square metres, the factory can produce 98,000 engines per annum in three shifts. A senior executive stated the company was also looking at starting local assembly of gasoline (petrol) engines in India, although a final decision had not been taken in this regard.
