What future does Variable Compression Ratio have in the future of the auto industry?
Hybrid and electric vehicles are yet to pose a threat to the VCR technology, at least for the foreseeable time
The major challenges to today’s auto industry are almost all related to the reduction use of fossil fuel; whether it be from stricter regulations for emissions, or the need for increased fuel efficiency. One of the recent advances automotive engine technology is the improvement of thermal efficiency and hence fuel economy and lower emission levels. The main feature affecting thermal efficiency is the compression ratio that is compromised in fixed compression ratio spark ignition engines.
